Global Interdependence
One important cultural effects of globalization on Thailand is that many native languages are endangered and will die out in the next 50 years. One reason this is happening is the government’s unofficial policy of promoting standard Thai. Another effect from globalization on Thailand is the sex trade industry. This has effected Thailand because the industrialization has resulted in unequal distribution of money and the farmer in the northern mountains are desperate and find prostitution or selling their daughters as a way to stabilize their income. Buddhist monks believe that capitalism is not compatible to Buddhist beliefs and that the commercialized view of Buddhism has led to a decline in morality which in return has sparked a financial crisis (Dougherty, 2001). Overall it seems global interdependence has caused Thailand more harm than good.
Oil Production and Consumption
1. Record:
Oil Production:837,200 bbl/ day ranked 25 highest production in the world
Oil Consumption: 985,100 bbl/day ranked 24 highest consumption in the world.
2. Summarize: The information I have researched leads me to believe that Thai people relay on other natural sources for energy such as natural gases for electricity. Also there country has been industrialized considering the amount of oil and natural gases consumed. I also found on eia.gov that Thailand has new alternative energy plans to reduce their consumed energy by 25% by 2022. This shows me that they are a progressive country.
3. Contemplate:
Will Thailand's economy continues to grow if this new alternative energy plan will be as effective?
Another question is will the amount of natural gases and oil produced and imported be enough to keep Thailand running efficiently?
